About

Founded in 1954, The Art League is among the nation’s largest and oldest multi-service organizations for visual artists. As a major component of the cultural fabric of Alexandria, The Art League offers extensive exhibit opportunities for artists through its gallery, high quality fine art education through the school, and valuable outreach programs to the local community.

Membership in the gallery is open to all and provides a fellowship to 1000 artists, amateur to experienced, with an array of exhibition and education opportunities. Member artists participate in monthly, juried exhibits (juried by noted fine art professionals throughout the region).  The engaging exhibition schedule makes The Art League Gallery an intriguing space for the culturally curious to view original, handmade works of art of all media.

The School offers classes in the fine arts and crafts for all ages and skill levels.  Classes are open to all, taught by some of the most talented and well-known artists in the country, and include instruction in drawing, watercolor, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry making, the fiber arts and more.  Each year more than 7,500 students enroll in the School, filling over 10,000 class seats.  Domestic and international workshops are offered throughout the year as well as Summer Art Camp for kids.  Because all courses are noncredit, the focus is on personal enrichment through art or as an artist, rather than a formal degree.
